T-12 · Complex numbers
The plane as a number.
A complex number is a point that can be multiplied: lengths multiply and angles add, and |z|² = a² + b² is Pythagoras. On the lattice every product is exact, squaring m + ni yields Euclid's triples, and the roots of unity for every n dividing 24 are written in closed form. Analytic maps bend the grid but keep every right angle.
